Shortly I will transcribe one or two
speeches of my late father which give a potted history of the Northwold
Road Synagogue and its predecessor shtibil. The shtibil was located
around the corner at 46 Brooke Road, by Stoke Newington commons, and was
established in 1931. The octagonally-shaped Northwold Road Synagogue occupied a former Methodist church.
The shul opened in September 1955 and closed 34 years later in September
1989.
My father kept a photographic archive of the shul (like
father like son).
I also have a video of the shul with a conducted tour
given by my father. This was taken during one of my yearly trips to
the UK in the '80s, when it was clear that the shul would close within a
few years. Selections from this video will be encoded later. First Upload: September 4, 2002
