Holocaust hero. Rabbi Schonfeld was the brother of noted British
economist Sir Andrew Akiba Shonfeld.
At 22, Schonfeld succeeded his father as rabbi of Adath
Yisroel, a small Orthodox congregation in the Stamford Hill section of
London; principal of the first
Jewish Secondary School; and presiding rabbi of the Union of Orthodox
Hebrew Congregations.
