Microwave Observing Project (MOP)
Project Goal: To carry out a search for
microwave signals of extraterrestrial intelligent origin.
||To use existing large radio telescopes to
carry out a Targeted Search of about 800 nearby solar-type stars with high spectral
resolution (1 Hz) and sensitivity (2 x 1026 to 7 x 1024
m2/W) over the frequency range from 1 to 3 GHz. (Ames Research
||To use the 34 m telescopes of NASA's Deep
Space Network (DSN) to carry out a Sky Survey that will examine the whole sky at moderate
spectral resolution (30 Hz) and sensitivity (5 x 1022 to 5 x 1021
m2/W) over the frequency range from 1 to 10 GHz. (JPL)
Duration: 1990 - 1999.
Cost: $12.1 million for starters.
