The COSETI Observatory

  • Searching the Microwave & Optical Cosmic Haystacks for Monochromatic Beacons. The number of channels or bins to search in the optical spectrum need be no greater than in the microwave spectrum.

    • The Microwave Haystack.
      • 9 Billion 1 Hz Channels.
    • The Optical Haystack.
      • 9 Billion 100 kHz Channels.
  • The modern SETI approach as been to search sub-Hz bins in the hope of finding those increasingly illusive microwave beacons. Rather than using a finer tooth-comb, perhaps the best strategy would be to move into the optical spectrum and increase bin widths.
