The first Visible Optical SETI Observatory in North America
Copyright: Stuart Kingsley
The first Visible Optical SETI Observatory in North America; one of only three in the entire world (circa 1992). Situated in the author's back yard, the 25.4 cm (10") Meade LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope (SCT) cane be seen in the foreground. It is interfaced to its control center via a serial port; the connections being at the foot of the pole that supports the satellite dish in the background. View is seen looking north. The C/Ku-Band satellite dish has nothing to do with SETI, it is used for more prosaic functions like receiving TV News from the United Kingdom via Intelsats over the Atlantic (dish in this picture is actually pointing south east towards Intelsat V F4 which is located at 34.5o W.)
