Retrospective Optical SETI - Historical Approach.
- Look for anomalous spectral lines in stellar spectrographic plates that have been collected by numerous optical observatories throughout the world over the past century.

- The greatest discovery of all time may have been missed by an astronomer studying stellar spectra who put down the unusual “bright” line in his spectral plate as a “glitch” in his equipment!

- Such a line could be an unnatural laser ETI beacon signal. Unless one was looking for such a feature it might be missed entirely. Automated scanners could be employed to scan the historical database quickly.
